Change of Plans

I've been letting the rainy cool weather get me down lately.  The disappointment of rain with the expectations of warm sunny weather has made me go into shut down mode.

But I've been thinking about my situation and how it really isn't practical to pick up and go somewhere else right now.  This is where I live and I need to find something inspiring about the cool damp weather.

I have to accept the fact that my garden might not amount to much this year and I may not be in a swim suit at the beach very often.  I have to carry on with life and make the most of it right?

So I will pick up where I left off and keep working on my photos and paint my ideas and some how find that west coast spirit to enjoy the outdoors....even in the rain

Mirror Maze with 12 Signs of Depression by Ken Lum

Ken Lum has become one of my favourite Vancouver artists since I learned of him last year. It's strange because I don't like all the work that he produces but he examines questions of society and identity which I find fascinating.

Banyan and I checked out Ken Lum's solo exhibit at the Vancouver Art Gallery and of course the Mirror Maze was Banyan's Favourite. We went through it at least six times.

In the words of BandedShadows, "it is a cross between a mirror maze and symptoms of clinical depression. A mirror reflects a person’s own image and consequently, one knows them self. Ken Lum believes we live in confusing times and has chosen to fragment and alter the images produced by the mirrors."

I don't think Banyan suffers from depression by the looks of these photos.

I love this photo of Ken Lum.

One Can Dream

I'm thinking of starting a new blog called "Every Day is a Rainy Day".  The wet rainy weather is really getting to me.
The last two summers have been extra short due to cool wet weather and after a long rainy winter season, it's enough to make me want to go crazy.

If I wasn't so pregnant I would hop on a plane right now to some where sunny, dry, and warm...HOT!
I want to actually go swimming in the ocean instead of looking at it knowing it will never be really warm enough to swim in for long.

Nothing like those chilly arctic waters flowing through the Georgia Straight.
Hawaii first popped into my head but then I really started thinking more permanent.

Australia!  Yes, I want to move back to Australia where everyday really is a sunny day and its still warm in winter and hot hot in summer and the ocean is beautiful and the beaches are even more beautiful.....

It's hard not to day dream about that.

Puddle Jumping

Rain, rain, and more rain.  What can you do but put on your wellies and splash through some puddles?

I really can't decide, black and white or colour?

Southern Alberta Charm

On a recent trip to Lethbridge, I was promised sunny blue skies and warm weather...
Instead I was greeted with grey clouds, snowstorms and bitter cold winds.
One day, however, I woke up to a blanket of the most sparkly blanket of snow. I decided to put on my boots and take my camera for an early morning stroll and came back with these...
I'm glad I went when I did because the snow melted by lunch time taking the charm and beauty with it.
