Sean Alexander

source, coyote source

I came a cross Sean Alexander's drawings one day. It was the coyote that caught my eye on pitch design union blog. I tried to find out more about him but when I went to his website, it looked like he deleted all his work. One page was titled "Talk to the Hand" with a picture of his hand and it said, "Erasing. Will post new work if I feel like drawing again".  Now I can't even find that page. I could be mistaken as there are a lot of Sean Alexanders out there on the web but I think this is the guy who made these drawings. In a way I kind of feel like him, I want to erase everything...my facebook, my blog, twitter...everything. I don't really know his story but for me I feel like being online presents a false reality with pressure to keep the online reality alive by posting everything I'm doing in reality so my online reality can keep going. At the same time, being online allows me to access so many talented and creative people which allows me to glean images for inspiration and ideas. It's a double edged sword really. How to strike a fine balance between being online and offline. I guess the question is what is really important? I think I choose real life. I want to live for the sake of living and not for my online reality.

Will post more if I feel like posting again.

The Work Was Found.

Have you ever googled your name?  I would be surprised if you didn't.  I googled my name for fun one night and was shocked to find some of my work posted on the ECUAD design page.  I didn't post it and as far as I know, I am the only one with access to these files.  I don't know where or who it came from, but it made me feel a little strange for a night.  I guess it comes down to the fact that I didn't give my consent.  Not that their important work.  It's a bit mysterious.  They were an assignment for my design class a few years ago.  I learned so much from this class and enjoyed the process so much, I wanted to change my major.

Pakayla Beihn

Ever since the camera was invented, painting and photography have been at odds with each other.  Each trying to mimic or surpass the other.  However, Pakayla Beihn has managed to blend both mediums together creating a beautiful ethereal vision.

Anna Emilia

My friend posted this illustration on her blog filly + foal because it looked so much like her daughter and herself.  I agree.  It's such a beautiful illustration and its slightly uncanny nature to the resemblance of living people I know, I couldn't help but to post it too.

Anna Emilia is an illustrator from Finland and after briefly being introduced, I am already a big admirer of her work.  I love the colour palette she uses and her sense of whimsy.  As I was looking through her work I recognized one of her illustrations that was recently published in the Kinfolk Magazine.

I always have this epiphany moment when I can make a connection to an artist.

Mirror Maze with 12 Signs of Depression by Ken Lum

Ken Lum has become one of my favourite Vancouver artists since I learned of him last year. It's strange because I don't like all the work that he produces but he examines questions of society and identity which I find fascinating.

Banyan and I checked out Ken Lum's solo exhibit at the Vancouver Art Gallery and of course the Mirror Maze was Banyan's Favourite. We went through it at least six times.

In the words of BandedShadows, "it is a cross between a mirror maze and symptoms of clinical depression. A mirror reflects a person’s own image and consequently, one knows them self. Ken Lum believes we live in confusing times and has chosen to fragment and alter the images produced by the mirrors."

I don't think Banyan suffers from depression by the looks of these photos.

I love this photo of Ken Lum.

Code!

Before Little B was in preschool, I use to take him everywhere: art galleries, swimming, museums, parks, the beach!.... now most of my time is spent driving to and from preschool.  One of my most memorable gallery outings was Code 1 Live during the 2010 Cultural Olympiad in Vancouver.  Sadly I can't remember the artist or the name of the interactive light installation but the experience is still vivid in my mind.  Banyan could't get enough of it, I could hardly keep up with him!

Andrew Ballstaedt

I haven't been able to spend as much time blogging as I would like these days.  My posts are backing up and all I can do is think about them as I try and organize my house.  I'm still waiting for the internet to be hooked up, but in the mean time I have been using my iPhone as a hot spot to access the internet on my computer.  It seems a little backwards but it works...

I was going through my collection of pictures and artists that inspire me the other day and came across Andrew Ballstaedt.  I became acquainted with his work last year on a trip to Logan Utah.  My best friend's sister had two of his paintings displayed in her house.  I think she may have known the artist personally but I can't quite remember.   I was so drawn to them, I would stand in front of them and study them.  It made me curious about the artist himself and wondered about his process.  I made sure to take a picture of his name so I wouldn't forget.  I tried to take photographs of the paintings themselves but they didn't turn out too well so I pulled a few images from his website.

This is one of the paintings that was in the house.

I really liked how delicate and fine the lines appeared in Andrew's paintings.  So much so, I wanted to give it a try...

I think I need more practice drawing power lines!

Scribble Doodle

This is a collaborative work between little B and me.  He scribbled and I doodled.
